On a Personal Note—The Slow of Summer

Hello, hello. I promise I haven’t abandoned this space. I’ve somehow just gotten caught up in the haze of traveling, seaside stays, and happenings lately. I feel like I went from having very little plans to filling up my social calendar quite quickly. I can’t complain! But excited to be back here with some changes.

End of July, early August always feels like the deep slow of summer. The days are still so long and it’s hot. Very hot. I’m soaking up the sun-drenched weeks in light, flowy dresses over olive, freckled skin. Spending most of my time indoors with cool air or otherwise found by a pool, a patio with friends and a crisp drink, or as close to the ocean as possible. I have my last summer vacation coming up next week—our annual family beach trip. I’m so excited to reunite with the cousin clan and get a solid week of beach time in, but I must admit, I’m already a bit excited for fall to creep in. I realize we' still have a couple months, but I’m longing for cooler days when I can step outside without needing a shower after five minutes!

Anyways, summer has been wonderful. I’ve been here and there and work has been really busy, but it’s just felt so normal to be traveling a bit and socializing often and going to backyard parties. Just trying to embrace it while it lasts! When I’m not out and about, I’ve been really loving my apartment. I think this is probably the first time I’ve ever felt settled in a space. Like I know I’m not going to be moving out when my lease ends. I’ve been completely transforming the apartment to be mine and have used the summer months to settle some more details. I just purchased the last furniture piece for my space! And now just finalizing little things like light fixtures, art, window treatments, etc. I’m hoping to have it “complete” by the time the cold swoops in.

So yes, lots of things going on in my personal and work life, and I’ve unfortunately just been pulled away from the blog and fell short on my attempt at posting regularly. But I’m determined to get better about dedicating time throughout my week to this space alone! With so many changes coming to Instagram and social media in general, this site has never felt more paramount in sharing what brings me joy and inspiring you all! I’ve been working on a few things behind the scenes and am excited to share.

I completely revamped my Shop page! I’ve split it up into different sections and added an entire page dedicated to shopping my apartment style. The questions I get asked most are about where I bought certain items! Not only have I added pieces that are still available, like my white chairs, sofa, acrylic console….but I’ve also added a bunch of vintage items that are similar to the ones I’ve collected over the years! It took me weeks to pull everything together, but I’m so happy to be able to share this page with you often so you can easily snag something you see in my apartment. I’m still building out each collection, but I’m really excited about it and wanted to go ahead and push it out!

I’m also still working on some mobile site design, but it’s up and working fine and everyone can easily browse! Of course, you know I prefer a desktop version, always! So I encourage you to visit my site from a computer every now and then. I’m also working in the background on a better search function so you can easily find posts through keyword searching. For now, the Categories section of the menu will get you to all my different series. With that said, I’ve got a bunch of post ideas coming up and hoping to weave in some new roundups. I’m definitely feeling in the groove again and looking forward to reconnecting!

Hope you all are having a wonderful summer and soaking up these sunny, warm days.

On A Personal Note—Easing Back In

I didn’t mean to take an accidental month hiatus from the blog, but here we are. I'm happy to say life has picked back up again and DC is almost in full swing, so happenings have taken me away from this space. There's much to catch up on!

Hello hello! I didn’t mean to take an accidental month hiatus from the blog, but here we are. I’m sure it won’t be the last time! I’m so happy to say that life has been busy. Which is odd after such a quiet year spent home alone. DC is picking up. The parks are filled on sunny days with people soaking up the nice weather, walking past outdoor tables of friends drinking wine and dining is no longer foreign, popping in and out of shops is a regular occurrence again, the monuments and waterfronts and city streets are once again buzzing. I love it.

Lately, I’ve been trying to ease back into “normal” life. From making dinner plans, to wine dates, going to little parties, long evening walks, city adventures. It feels so good to be vaccinated and see the world opening back up! As much as I love a night in, forcing myself to make plans has helped me feel healthier and more alive. But it also takes a lot of my energy! So spending time at home is still one of my favorite things to do.

Speaking of…. if you’re following me on Instagram, then you know that I’ve been putting a lot of work into my apartment lately. I painted! The entire apartment. Alone. In one weekend. I know, I’m crazy. But I’m so so in love with how it looks and cannot express enough how much paint can make a difference in making a rental feel homey and custom. I’m so excited about how it’s feeling and can’t wait to keep going. I have plans to switch out lighting throughout the summer and get my bedroom in order. For now, I’m taking a break from spending money ha. I’m definitely planning to share more of my home here. I’m honestly just one of those people that needs things to feel a bit more complete before sharing. I’ll get there though! I think a post around how to customize a rental may also be of interest to you guys. So we’ll see!

In other news, I’m heading to Montana Thursday. I’m SO ready to go on my first trip since Covid and take a vacation from work. We’re heading to a wedding and then will be spending the week in Big Sky, soaking up the outdoors and beautiful scenes. I can’t wait! Mostly excited to reunite with family I haven’t seen in so long. This is a much-needed retreat.

Anyhow, between work and real life, blogging was put on the back-burner, but I’ve definitely been craving inspiration and pretty homes and goods and sharing all the things I love with you all. Determined to get back on track here (I know I’ve said that before)! I’m planning to have blog posts go up while I’m away and have plenty on my mind to share. I hope you’ll stop by again! In the meantime, I’ll be sharing my daily happenings, apartment updates, and city frolics on Instagram.
